John Wesley Harding's Cabinet of Wonders kicked off my weekend with class last night (Friday, April 22) at City Winery. Allison Moorer, Rick Moody, Mary Gaitskill, Mike Doughty, Tanya Donelly, Craig Wedron, Eugene Mirman, JWH's band The English UK and other special guests presented a truly wondrous cabinet of music, words and laughs. Highlights: Mirman on the theremin, Moorer's waltz about crows, Gaitskill's rockin' dance moves during the finale and Moody's hilarious story on cheese (hence this photo album's title... imagine Moody half-shouting that line in a deep, funny/angry voice).
From there, the subway took me to Union Hall in Park Slope for Karaoke Killed the Cat, the rowdiest, loudest, most upbeat karaoke dance party in town, hosted by Chris Goldteeth and Lord Easy every Friday at midnight. The girl with black bangs pictured toward the end totally rocked Fiona Apple. Then I actually got up and sang "Son of a Preacher Man." Chris Goldteeth and Lord Easy were the best hosts, completely, awesomely crazy all night. We left at 2 a.m. and it was still hoppin'. Enjoy the photos - happy weekend!
