Checkin' in with Ohio: Old Worlds

Ohio’s Old Worlds offer a sound that is decidedly chill and not much else. Not that that’s a bad thing, but there is little adventure to be found in the three tracks on their Myspace page. None of the songs build toward anything incredibly grandiose as one might expect or hope, but instead plateau at a more somber place, and for that reason, their music might be considered more dream pop than progressive. The vocals are few and far between, and it would be better for the band’s sake if they were non-existent because they are too whiny for the particular sound that the band is going for. Their best offering, “The Christmas Song,” looks to rectify these complaints, but ends far too abruptly. If you’re looking for music to mellow out to during the quiet hours of the day without all the perks of prog-rock, the music of Old Worlds is a decent start.
