    Mittenfields

    By: Rei Thompson
    Rating: 7/11

Haunting would be the most relevant to describe the tonal quality of Mittenfields from Washington DC. The band lineup mainly consists of Matt, Sam, Erik, Andy, and Dave Mittenfields, but it does include other special guests (often other family members) when possible. Their sound focuses more on the instrumentation, relying heavily on guitar and drums to accentuate the eerie resonance of the band. Hearing faint screaming on the track,“Our Hosts Were Ghosts” only adds to the trance-like quality of the band’s sound. “Look Both Ways” is another song that sounds like the equivalent to dripping vocal wax, making heavy use of echoing the vocals to place greater emphasis on the guitar riffs. To hear them in New York, check them out on April 10 at Public Assembly in Brooklyn.
