    MixTape

    By: Faetra Petillo

    Rating: 9/11

MixTape may just be the latest and greatest indie band you are not yet listening to. Based out of NYC and New Haven, CT but playing gigs all over lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, the five-piece band is carried by the vocal talents of Rudy Babouder, who sings with a mix of Ingrid Michaelson and Bjork. Mixtape’s sound ranges from soulful, jazzy tracks reminiscent of Portishead, to more scattered punk-driven songs such as “Running.” MixTape offers something to anyone with a taste for punk/funk/indie tunes. The band also does a fine job combining a classical sensibility with more modern electronica. One of their standout tracks, “I Recall,” begins with a soft, melancholy piano solo that sounds like it would come from a vintage music box, and builds to an all-instruments-on-deck rock ballad you may want to sing and dance along with.

Thanks Faetra for a fantastic review of Mixtape. If you enjoy the recordings, you NEED to come out to a show. They sound amazing live. Keep up the great work and hopefully we'll see you out at a gig sooner than later.

    Cheers!
