Taigaa, a three-piece Brooklyn based band consisting of all women, mixes dark, operatic vocals, primal drum beats and electric keys that add a slight touch of 80’s post punk to create a unique blend of diverse sounds that dodge genre placement. Taigaa melds different styles of music and creates interesting instrumental combinations, such as pairing more natural instruments like bongos and rattles with an electronic keyboard. Song “In Decay” combines a snaking, African drumbeat with jazzy trumpets, while “Cosmic Matador” borrows from the Spanish style with a tango beat altered slightly with sad, melancholy violin melodies. In general, the music slinks by in a primeval and sinisterly charming way that gives the listener an interesting anomaly of sound.
