Basing their name not on creepy specters from another world but instead on the indefinable, vague connection between music and the individual experience, Ghost Ghost stay true to their moniker by dabbling in seemingly endless genres. A rock band foremost, the trio deftly swings between styles and somehow manages to own each one however brief, so that their ADD is a delightful sampling rather than irksome confusion. This of course leaves them sounding like a slew of different bands and categorizations, with moments of ska, new metal, garage, jazz and more, but through it all they never stop sounding like themselves. Another striking feature the trio boasts is a clear display of playing skill, with guitarist Karl Ward nimbly tackling all manner of solos and drummer Tim Ireland spitting out complex fills with the greatest of ease. Vocals may sound bratty and playful like Gordon Gano, or smooth and trustworthy like any classic rock legend. Be it dark contemplation or summer jam, Ghost Ghost also manage smart, literal lyrics that present experiences with cleverness and reliability. In the end, their genre hopping is a fun exercise in discovery, and the listening experience is well worth the time.
