Ingrid Michaelson has great potential as a successful indie songwriter. Not only does she have the looks but also a great voice and some very enjoyable music. Her voice is similar to Kate Tunstall, although Michaelson’s style of music is much lighter and relaxing. Perhaps this is a double edge sword for Michaelson as it can be difficult to grab the listener’s attention. While her voice is strong and soothing and her music great for that relaxing background sound, there is a passive quality about her compositions that doesn’t compel me to listen to them frequently. The songs, however, can be a pick-me-up and bring an interesting quality of better days ahead. The optimism and catchiness in the lyrics of “ Be Ok,” and the all around great track of “The Way I’am,” will certainly leave you feeling holistically better. However those of you looking for something more unique or eccentric won’t find it here. But during those times of healing or contemplation, you know where to go for the perfect soft and folksy sound.
